EVANS, Ga. – Champions Retreat, a revered private golf club located just outside of Augusta, Ga. – and the only club in the world featuring three individually designed courses by Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus – welcomes David Ross as their new executive chef.
With more than 20 years of storied experience, Ross’ esteemed background is expected to bring a new element to the club’s culinary program. His appointment to executive chef at Champions Retreat comes on the heels of serving as tournament chef for Berckmans Place, the only official hospitality experience at the Masters. In his role at Augusta National Golf Club, he also served as the lead chef at Ike’s Restaurant within Berckmans Place.
“We’re very pleased to welcome Chef Ross and have his immense level of talent added to our professional team,” said Cameron Wiebe, general manager of Champions Retreat. “He has such admiration and respect of this community, coupled with an incredibly impressive experience history, which we’re hugely excited about bringing to the club.”
Prior to Berckmans Place at the Masters, Ross was proprietor and executive chef of Augusta’s beloved 5oclockbistro, known for its French-inspired, classically prepared yet approachable cuisine, which created a loyal following. He then went on to act as director of hospitality and executive chef at Edgars Grille, the award-winning Augusta locale on Washington Rd. He boasts a 15-year career in culinary instruction, teaching at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu international institutes in both Atlanta and New Hampshire, as well as opening Helms College.
Before embarking on his culinary career, Ross acted as an architectural technician in London, followed by an assistant wine maker at two vineyards in France. He is originally from Scotland.
